My Substack readers don’t know this but those who’ve been with me for longer on Facebook and Instagram do.
Boston is not my favorite town.
It’s colder and darker than I like much of the year. It gets ridiculous amounts of snow. It’s full of lots of smart people, but many who think they are smarter than they are. It’s racist. It’s like going back in time in many ways. It has huge disparities of rich and poor. I wager it has more narcissists per capita than many places. Parking is a pain. Drivers are less-than friendly. The town, the sports fans, and the academics can all be a little full of themselves. This can lead to too little tact and too much self-importance.

These things are reflections of Boston as I’ve experienced it as well as some people I’ve experienced from Boston or who spent time in Boston.
It’s part of why I applied to no schools in Massachusetts.
