Losing things makes us feel insecure. Especially if they were things we took for granted.

I’ve always worried about taking things for granted. Because when you do, they have a way of disappearing.

Completely connected to why I am so grateful by nature. And for nature.

I like to appreciate the things I have while I have them. Not just after they are gone.

It is when we take things for granted that we begin to grow entitled. It is when we begin to believe we deserve things just because we have them that we are most likely to lose them.

I took my brain for granted.

And now it doesn’t work the way it used to. Because it was subjected to many years of abuse.

It is extremely painful to adjust to my new brain. It is terrifying to not be able to rely on it in ways I have in the past.

I feel a lot of loss. And fear.

If you don’t know what it’s like to have to learn to function with a brain that doesn’t perform the way it has in the past, consider yourself lucky.

It is painful and scary.
